fondue chinoise & its roots

 

The forerunner of the Fondue Chinoise we know is the Chinese 'Hot Pot', also called 'Fire pot'.

This dish has been known for about 1900 years.

In China, meat & pieces of vegetables as well as Chinese ravioli were dipped into the 'hot pot'. The Chinese fondue came to Switzerland in the 1970s.

The dish was adapted to Swiss habits.
